In a world full of ready-made synthetic products pretending to be Venetian plaster, we stand in dedication to reviving the lost art of true Venetian plaster.

Actually,  it was old when they discovered it. Nearly 1200 years ago, Venetian merchants unlocked the secrets of ancient Egyptian plaster, and brought the technique to Italy. Beginning in Venice, it spread throughout Italy, and to many other parts of Europe. The actual plaster, which became known as Venetian Plaster, still adorns palaces and villas that were built centuries ago.

The products we use are the genuine article;  imported straight from Italy, made with the same techniques the Venetians learned from Egyptian building concepts: a specially prepared slacked lime and marble dust.  It contains no sand or cement.

These unique finishes can range from glass-like appearance, to a rough Tuscan feel. Lush colors - Venetian reds, ochre, terracotta, Provencal blues, rich ivories, pale greens, pure whites - evoke a sense of history yet remain startlingly contemporary. Finishes are applied with a technical skill using a special trowling motion.  After several weeks after it is applied, it carbonizes, turning back into stone, defying dust mites, boring mites, and other bugs that can find their way through most walls. It also breathes, preventing a wet environment conducive to mold. Consequently, Italian plasters are extremely durable and offer a lifetime guarantee.

 

The Finishes

Exterior/Interior

Rialto Antiqua ®

Antiqua I is a seasoned slake-limed coating that produces an incomparably smooth finish similar to heavily troweled plaster. Colored earth and natural oxides provide organic pigmentation. Versatility can create monolithic or extremely cloudy effects in application.

Muted distinction is realized with Rialto Antiqua II, a seasoned slake-lime finish containing minute particles of aggregate. The rustic effect is speckled, creating hints of shadows.

 

Rialto Antiqua gives interior and exterior surfaces the decorative appearance of colored plaster. Antiqua I can be smoothed to obtain an even plaster finish. Antiqua II contains gray aggregate to create a speckled effect with shadowy hints.

 

Epoca® spatolato

 

This aggregate-free, seasoned slaked-lime finish appears glossy and marble-like, with an aged feel. Depth of color and visual texture is most striking with Rialto Epoca spatolato.

 

Rialto Epoca spatolato is ideal for use on exterior masonry surfaces to which a decorative, “old” effect is desired. Epoca spatolato is widely used in conservation work on buildings in areas of historical interest.

 

Velasil ®

 

Velasil acts as a protective sealant and produces a veiled glazing effect when Rialto Velasil is applied over other Rialto finishes.

 

Rialto Velasil is particularly suited to facades that call for a decorative effect and permanent protection against the damaging effects of water and acid rain. Velasil provides an opaque finish and a slightly glazed effect.

 

Interior Only  

Evolution ®

 

Subtle and timeless, this versatile resin-based coating can appear glossy, matte, translucent, or opaque. The semi-mottled spatula effects of Rialto Evolution are borne of a technique that has inspired artists for centuries.

 

Rialto Evolution gives a soft, elegant spatula effect to interior walls. It is used extensively for both restoration work and newly constructed buildings.

 

Sinopia ®

 

Incorporating ancient plaster production techniques, Rialto Sinopia is a seasoned slaked-lime plaster that yields a suede or velvet-like finish. Colored earth brings natural beauty to interior applications.

 

Rialto Sinopia gives interior walls a prestigious, smooth, suede-like appearance.

 

Stucco Oro/Argento ®

 

The spatula effects of Rialto Stucco Oro/Argento/Bronze/Brass add to the beauty of other Rialto finishes, particularly Evolution® and Veneziano®. Exclusive surroundings are enhanced with shades of tempered metallic gold, silver, bronze, or brass.

 

Rialto Stucco Oro/Argento/Bronze/Brass gives walls a soft spatula effect with elegant shades of either metallic gold, silver, bronze or brass. For this reason it is extremely suitable for particularly elegant and exclusive surroundings.
